Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe Could Make a Luxurious Comeback

Mercedes-Benz might revive its S-Class Coupe as part of its strategy to target the ultra-luxury market. Recent trademark filings with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) hint at coupe variants of the current-generation S-Class, known internally as the W223.

The automaker had previously discontinued the coupe and convertible S-Class models with the introduction of the W223, which debuted in 2021. However, new developments suggest these sleek body styles may reappear with a fresh, high-end twist.

Trademark Filings Reveal Luxury and Performance

Two trademark filings, first reported by Car and Driver, showcase distinct S-Class Coupe designs. One appears to be a Maybach S-Class Coupe, featuring the signature Maybach grille, chrome accents, and a hood ornament reminiscent of the Maybach sedan and GLS SUV.

The second design leans toward performance, with AMG-specific features like the AMG grille and an AMG badge on the trunk. This version reflects the sporty character of the AMG S 63 E Performance sedan.

Interestingly, these filings were not made directly by Mercedes-Benz but by Robu Aktiengesellschaft, a company known for collaborating with Mercedes on bespoke projects. Robu previously filed the trademark for the Bussink GT R SpeedLegend, a heavily modified AMG GT developed in partnership with Mercedes motorsports affiliate HWA.

Potential Limited-Edition Status

These designs may point to limited-edition entries in Mercedes’ Mythos series, a collection of ultra-exclusive vehicles. The first Mythos car, the AMG PureSpeed, is a Formula 1-inspired roadster with a halo protection system, limited to just 250 units.

If the S-Class Coupe models follow a similar path, they are unlikely to be mass-production vehicles like their predecessors. Instead, they could cater to affluent buyers seeking exclusivity, customization, and luxury—placing them in competition with Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

Mercedes’ Ultra-Luxury Strategy

Mercedes-Benz has shifted its focus to premium vehicles and bespoke options for wealthy consumers. A revived S-Class Coupe would align with this vision, offering a blend of cutting-edge technology, elegant design, and unparalleled comfort.

While details remain speculative, a new S-Class Coupe would undoubtedly be a statement of luxury, further elevating the brand’s reputation in the high-end automotive market.
